EVENT
REPORT – JANUARY 27, WEDGEWOOD COUNTRY CLUB
The absence of
Patrick Doms from the first event of 2002 made a considerable
difference to the general quality of play with a stableford point
average of just above 35 points.
There were
twelve Buffaloes competing for valuable order of merit points and it
was most probably the first event where all competing Buffaloes
achieved above 30 points.
Congratulations
must go to Loine Young who registered his first level par score of
what is fast becoming a most illustrious career. His forty-three
points has created a significant cushion early on in the order of
merit. It is still early days though and there are likely to be some
significant handicap adjustments in the short term.
Patches’
astutely selected four-ball which also included Loine, Ferrox and
Gullet were victorious in the alliance team competition. After 16
holes things were tight when they were level with the third placed
side on 72 points and one behind the second placed side at that stage.
Three chip-ins in the last two holes (including two eagles) gave them
19 points on the closing two holes which was enough for a two point
victory.
The low point
of the day was possibly the vote against a name-change back to
“Norman” for the long suffering “Maureen”. May all those who voted in
the negative be the recipients of the viruses contained herein.
